This edition of The Mattie honors a powerful piece of American military history. Handcrafted from authentic Desert Camouflage Uniforms (DCUs), each bag carries the legacy of the service members who wore them in some of the most defining conflicts of the 20th and 21st centuries.

The Desert Camouflage Uniform, often called the "chocolate chip camo" or three-color desert camo, was primarily worn by U.S. troops from the early 1990s through the mid-2000s. These uniforms were issued during key conflicts such as:

• Operation Desert Storm (1990–1991)

• Operation Enduring Freedom (2001–2014)

• Operation Iraqi Freedom (2003–2011)

On March 20, 2003, a U.S.-led coalition including the United Kingdom, Australia, and Poland launched the invasion of Iraq, resulting in 26 days of major combat operations. These uniforms were standard issue during that campaign, worn by the brave men and women serving in unforgiving desert environments.

Today, these uniforms are repurposed into one-of-a-kind bags—each with its own marks of wear, color variation, and pattern placement. No two are alike.
