During WWII, 20-year-old Naomi Parker Fraley stepped into the workforce at the Naval Air Station in Alameda, CA, where she worked in a machine shop, drilling, patching airplane wings, and riveting. A newspaper photographer captured her hard at work, her hair wrapped in a now-iconic polka-dot headscarf. That very image is believed to have inspired the wartime “Rosie the Riveter” poster, a lasting symbol of resilience, empowerment, and female strength.
